Diwali Styling

Diwali is the Festival of Lights and is a festival where fun, family and friends all come into the mix of festivities. However not socialising with those we love during Diwali maybe placing a damper on your usual excitement then we are here to help and inspire you to get fired up and spread the joy of light again!

Yes, we are in lockdown 2 and we are unable to meet up with the closest family members and loved ones but there are lots of intimate personal touches we can make to add to the celebrations.

Here are our top 5 of what you could consider:

1.      Baking and cooking - the tradition of sharing Indian sweets and savouries

Yes we can all go full on Indian Martha Stewart bake and cooking at home at this time of year...you’ve got your chakris spiralling away, the mithai infused with an array of chocolate flavours...but consider those who are less fortunate. This year more people are affected by the current climate so it may also be nice to look at donating to food banks.

2.      Greeting cards and gifting - sending loved ones a home made card

As most who know us this was about our love for crafting and making together and this year it shouldn’t be any different! Bringing a smile to loved ones faces as they receive your card in the post or a virtual card!

But it doesn’t need to be handmade using a craft kit - as kids we were encouraged to upcycle and this branched out our creativity!

Gifting doesn’t have to be expensive presents it’s the thought that counts and this year doesn’t have to be any different - holding onto what we have with family is more important to us so use technology to support us seeing our loved ones safely!

3.      Plan your meal - make it special

Whether you opt for a specially curated fine dining experience delivered to your door or one you create prep ahead of the day(s).

This then brings us onto the planning how your table will look. In having the menu it allows you to decide what plates, cutlery and glassware you will need for your table setting.

4.      Celebrating Diwali is about creating memories - tradition of cleaning and decorating the home

Creating a truly ornate setting and experience for the upcoming zoom calls and virtual gatherings are great.

This year we chose to embrace our culture - gold is celebrated on Dhanteras and have taken an art nouveau inspired twist on this.

We took some of our Christmas garlands and added peacock feathers to create a table runner adding a mixture of candles finished with fresh fragrant roses!

The same theme has been carried through the home on the staircase and fireplace and peacocks in our rangoli patterns too.

5.      Outfits...dress up

Just the way we have dressed up the home don’t forget to dress up!

We may have become more accustomed to our pyjamas around the home but dressing up for those wonderful moments we share with loved ones is a great way to bring everyone together- you may choose to set a theme or a colour

The main thing is staying safe this year and keeping those we love safe doesn’t mean not seeing them but actually letting them know we are still here so book in those calls as you would for work to give those elderly members and those younger something to look forward to!
